Devon Association of Governors - Run by Devon Governors for Devon Governors
About the Devon Association of Governors
Introduction
The Devon Association of Governors (DAG) is the association of
maintained school Governing Bodies in the Devon
Local Authority. It was formed in 1993, and is part of a nationwide
network of Governing Bodies through membership of the National
Governors’ Association.
Membership of DAG is open to all Governing Bodies of Local Authority maintained schools. Currently the subscription is included in the purchase of the LA’s Governor Support Services package. Schools and Governing Bodies not buying in to these services can become members on payment of the prescribed subscription. Individual governors are members by virtue of being members of a Governing Body which is itself a member.
What does DAG aim to do?
DAG aims to help governing bodies to further the interests of the children in our schools by:
- providing a collective voice for governors both locally in relation to the Local Authority and nationally through the National Governors Association by making representations and responding to consultations;
- sharing and consulting on issues of common concern and offering guidance as appropriate;
- disseminating the national experience of Governing Bodies and governor associations;
- encouraging local branches for governors to share experience and concerns;
- identify and distribute best practice.
The Way DAG Operates
Governing Bodies are directly represented in the election of a member at the Annual Governors’ Conference (formerly the Annual General Assembly). The Executive Committee is elected by the Conference to further the interest of the Association between Conference meetings. The officers of the Association are elected by and from the Executive, as are its representatives on the National Governors’ Association. The Conference normally takes place once a year, but a special Conference may be called to deal with urgent issues.
